How to fix ripples or waves in epoxy bar tops, table tops, or countertops

If your epoxy surface is uneven, with ripples or waves, it is likely cause by one of the following issues:

  1. One coat of epoxy was insufficient for covering substrate imperfections. This oftens happens when a wooden substrate's surface has too many imperfections or is significantly warped.
  2. The flood coat may have been applied too thin. This product needs to be applied in full 1/8” flood coats in order to properly self-level.

  3. Too much heat may have been used when removing bubbles. This is a common cause of ripple patterns. When popping bubbles with a propane torch or heat gun, never linger for more than a second over any space. Move consistently back and forth across the surface and keep it at a slight distance. The torch flame should absolutely not touch the epoxy.

Solution to this issue:

  1. Sand the imperfections out of the surface to smooth it out.
  2. Finish it with 200-300 grit sandpaper.
  3. Wipe the dust away with a clean rag and acetone.
  4. Wait 20 mins for it to dry, then you can repour a new flood coat.
