What is the max batch size for mixing epoxy?
The suggested maximum is determined by epoxy type and which step of the process you're on.
For our UltraClear bar and table top epoxy:
- This epoxy cures faster while in the container due to low heat dispersion.
- Therefore, we recommend the following batch size limits:
- During the seal coat phase: 32 oz combined
- Mix no more than 16 oz of resin and 16 oz of hardener per batch (a 1:1 ratio).
- If you're unfamiliar with the epoxy process, you can start with 8 oz of each component.
- Just mix an additional batch as needed once you've finished applying the previous one.
- During the flood coat phase: 128 oz combined
- Mix no more than 64 oz of resin and 64 oz of hardener per batch (a 1:1 ratio).
- You can make smaller batches as needed, depending on how much surface area you're covering.
- Caution: Never mix more than 64 oz of each component in one batch. It will not blend adequately at such high volume, ruining the curing process.
- During the seal coat phase: 32 oz combined
For our UltraClear deep pour epoxy:
- This epoxy has a longer working time (pot life), allowing larger batches
- 192 oz combined (1.5 gallons) - Mix no more than 128 oz of resin component with 64 oz of hardener component (a 2:1 ratio) in each batch.
